About Us
Overview

The Literacy Project is a registered charity, established for the purpose of promoting the significance of reading and writing to lifelong learning. Established in March, 2017, we work with our nation’s youth via the Barbados National Library Service and Schools to foster a love for reading and an appreciation for the knowledge that may be derived.
We encourage active engagement with the material shared through exploratory discussion, in an effort to emphasize the importance of adopting a healthy questioning stance in the learning process.
Participant groups are always encouraged to also express their thoughts in writing, as well as, to enhance their confidence through vocal expression and presentation.

Whilst we aim to serve multiple demographics with our work, our primary objective as charity is to provide literacy support to young persons from disadvantaged backgrounds, who have literacy challenges.
Mission

To promote and enable competence in Literacy throughout our nation, as well as healthy critical thought processes, thereby equipping our youth and adult population with the skills to confidently navigate the developmental stages of their academic and personal lives.
Vision

To observe a 100% literate society, representative of high caliber, knowledgeable and skilled citizens, through which purposeful economic planning and development, and the prosperity of our nation can be realized.
